Depends on circumstances. First of all we do not have much money and would not be in a position to hand out money. maybe a very small amount like under 25 dollars. would never be able to be a "bank" I would not want someone to be hungry would help with food. I guess the big thing about "loaning" out a lot of money is to ask yourself would you be okay if you never saw a penny returned. if it would not be any problem go ahead. if it would cause trouble in the friendship, maybe not.

I lend only that which I can afford to give away... and I usually forget about the loan immediately.
This policy minimizes dissappointment and sometimes leads to pleasant surprises when loans are returned.
I would never suggest sending a friend to a loanshark (legal or otherwise) 'cause the vigorish is a killer.

I would advist against it.Send them to a reputable borrowing place like www.dontbebroke.com but dont borrow them the cash yourself. its just a ticket to future hostility and disagreement. If you value your friendship with that person anyway!

I would ask them to give me something of similar value to the amount they are asking to borrow and them give them that item back when they paid me back.

I would help a friend out who is really in a jam and just assume they would pay me back eventually. I have trustworthy friends so I really wouldn't worry too much about the payback.

A friend, sure. Thats what friends do. That and do dumb things.

Depends on the friend, the amount, and the circumstances.

Depends on the friend, depends on the situation. If the situation merits, and the resources are available, then I would certainly help.

I would help if I had money, it's a poor excuse, but unfortunately I live from paycheck to paycheck, like most of you I'm sure.

If you know you won't get it back you best be okay with it...

if i have it i will give it to a friend and if they pay me back thats fine but if they dont i wont make a big deal out of it or ruin a friendship over it but i will never lend them money again.

Depends on how often they ask to borrow money, if they're going to pay you back, and what they're spending it on. If someone needs groceries in their cupboard or some gasoline in their tank, I would be happy to help provide some assistance, if they're truly falling on hard times.

Not a good idea if you are speaking of large amounts, but $20 or something, sure any time.

Well, how much money are they asking for? What do they need it for? And how much do I have to contribute? If they're asking for money for something that's trivial (cash to get lunch or spotting them for a cover charge) or necessary (help with the rent or gas money), then I'll more likely see what I can help with. But if it's something harmful (cigarettes, for example; I don't stop my friends from smoking, but I'm not going to encourage it, either), the answer's probably "no".

Depends on which friend, what for,and how much I can spare on a given day.
Jed1000 09/21/2006
I suppose it depends on the friend and what kind of history we have. But I probably would do what I can.

It depends on the situation and if this particular friend has a habit of asking for money. If I had the money I would always lean in favor of helping, but using caution is a sign of wisdom.

Always tough for money to come between friends. If a buddy was hard on his luck and needed some cash, sure I'd help out. But if he's a gambling junkie, or if he's borrowed money in the past and hasn't paid it back, I more than likely would tell him to look elsewhere. I've only been asked a few times for small amounts and I don't think I've even been asked since college, so it's yet to be an issue.
