Tubal Sterilization can have some serious side effects, like.... ~ Post-Tubal Ligation Syndrome - symptoms include: dysfunctional uterine bleeding, painful periods, painful intercourse, and pelvic pain. Some symptoms result in endometriosis, hospitalization, and hysterectomy.
~ Ectopic Pregnancies - these occur when the sperm gets past the blockage, but the fertilized fetus can not. This is always fatal for the developing baby. And, it can be fatal for the mother if the bleeding is not controlled.
~ Increased Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) - tubal ligation lowers the levels of progesterone which increases PMS symptoms.
~ Risks from Surgery - Of course, every operation carries the risk of hemorrhage or infection.
~ Unwanted Permanence - A woman with her 'tubes tied' is basically permanently sterile. If requested, some doctors will try to reverse a tubal ligation, but success is not guaranteed.
~ Psychological Effects - after this procedure some women have experienced depression, panic attacks, irritability, a lack of desire for intimacy, etc.

I think we should offer it free of charge to any woman who wants it. Think of what that would save on welfare, kids...

I am currently using the nuvaring and having some severe depression as a side effect. I am considering the tubal, but I am reading that depression is also a side effect of that. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? I am wondering if I should go with the tubal or not. I just can't stand to live a life of depression. I have 4 kids and 2 step kids, I am done with the baby thing, but I am scared that the prevention methods will make me loose it. Please Help

Has anyone had the newest tubal? Problems? The reviewer pushing the pill instead of tubal should know the for the most part unknown repercussions. I have been on the pill for 20 years only now to find out it stops the absorption of Vit C , most of the B vitamins and calcium. Great choice huh? Needless to say, my healthy diet has not been helping me thanks to the pill.

Good for women who no longer want children. The vasectomy is less invasive and less expensive but Tubals are now done with two tiny incisions and less healing time.

There's no reason for a woman in a marriage to undergo this if there is no medical necessity. If you think you're sure, deman that your husband get a vasectomy, which is potentially reversible and a much more simple procedure.

I think this is the best method but can only be done for women who are either sick and would not be good for her to have kids, or for someone who has already had at least 2 children.

i was done at 3 kids and i was taking no chances. this just made it alot easier to not have to worry about it

O.K. if she is absolutely positive that she NEVER wants to have children, but that's tricky because she might feel very different in the future.

This is great if you never want to have kids again but there can always be a child wanted later in the future.

Half of the young women 25 and under in this horrible country of ours need to be sterilized because they are evil terrorists and thugs who abuse, neglect, and even murder their children. I approve this method and it should be mandatory for women who have been accused of murdering or abusing their children.

Please! don't do it.Just because now you think you don't want anymore children you may change your mind as I have done. I remarried and desperately want to have a child with my husband and I have researched reversals and went and got my report from hospital where my tubal was performed and have just found out my tubes were not tied as requested they were removed completely. just don't do , now we have no chance of a reversal. take the pill or something . don't make a quick hasty decision this lasts a lifetime.

If your husband will have a vasectomy skip this procedure.

This has only limited applications, and the woman (and her partner) have to be totally certain that she's had enough of childbearing. Otherwise, this could end up being a heartbreaking mistake.

I've known several women who've had this done after their final pregnancy and none have ever seemed to regret it. A step best reserved for that time when you're ready to close the door and make sure it stays shut.
