I saw this film in college, one of the funniest movies ever.

"Don't you know there's more to life than a little bit of money?"

Classic line.

a 4.5. very good movie. set in Minnesota. a shady car dealer wanting to get a chunk of money for himself makes arrangements for his wife to be kidnapped. his father in law. owns the car dealership and is a millionaire. the two men he hires kidnaps her but ends up in trouble of their own. one of the men who is real creepy murders three, people on the way to the hide out. the murders take place near Fargo and the town sherriff wonderfully played by Frances McDormand sets out to solve this crime. a lot of good plots, good writing, and terrific actors makes this dark comedy drama a great movie. one of the Coen brothers best.

I know I'm a dissenting voice, but I found that the mix of farcical characters and grave tragedy in Fargo fell flat. For me anyway. Still it had some defining moments like Steve Buscemi's character burying the money by a fencepost in the snow covered farmer's field and then sticking the ice scraper by the fence post as a marker, in hope against hope that he will ever find it again. A beautiful minor moment, typical of what elevates the Coen's movies, even if they aren't entirely successful.
