ItemImageMetallica's second album features the popular metal ballad "Fade to Black." The theme behind this album is death; though the songs don't follow a story, they all deal with death in some way.

When I was in High School we used to listen to this album before every football game to get ready and pumped up at the same time. I think this album is all killer and no filler. All the songs are great, Fight Fire With Fire. Ride the Lightning, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, those are the most popular songs on the album(first side for the record or cassette), but I think the rest of the album is just as solid. Trapped Under Ice, Escape, Creeping Death and The Call of Ktulu(Instrmental) are all great heavy metal songs. Creeping Death is always played during their live shows with the whole crowd screaming DIE!

My college friend had a great comment about this CD- "It's the greatest high-school weight-room album EVER!"

This album rocks, but it certainly hits and misses. It is really saved by its 'hits' (Fade to Black, Ride the Lightning, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Call Of Ktulu), as the rest is a bit dull. It's still a great album, but 'Master of Puppets' is a vast improvement.
