 | Loerke (46) 08/08/2007 | Wonderful and well-frequented place. Friends have led me to question how authentically Chinese the dishes are, but I frankly don't care. Best approach is to tell the waiter what you like (meat, seafood, or veggie; spicy or not) and just let him order for you.

 | matthatter (0) 03/03/2006 | Absolutely amazing... you have to go for the experience as much as anything else. I recommend letting the grouchy owner guy order for you... he's great, and you'll get some things that aren't even on the menu.

 | speedkitten (2) 02/07/2005 | Dive atmosphere. Every dish has the same Hunan sauce flavor. Not your typical Chinese restaurant so expect a lot of Hunan-style dishes.

 | Munson (7) 03/20/2001 | Definitely a dive and small (even though they have expanded next door) and with help that isn't the nicest in the world, but House of Nanking has a certain charm to it. The food is really good and, since the tables are so close together, you can almost taste the food on the tables next to you. It is worth the trip to Chinatown to check this place out.

 | c1snoopy (0) 01/11/2001 | The food is good and even though there's always a line, the restaurant is for tourists and non-asians.

 | Popcorn at Cal (0) 12/18/2000 | Great food. Very authentic. There is a decent selection. It is nice because the waiters often make suggestions. However, service can lack as food is sometimes thrown down in front of you. It can get expensive too.

 | POST9637et (0) 08/11/2000 | In a city blooming with culinary delights, Peter's "House of Nanking," stands out with authenticity, even down to sodas out of a can. A true treat for locals, leaving visitors wide-eyed and belly-filled.

 | will8780du (0) 07/19/2000 | Located in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown, next door to a bar where, "Girls and good friends meet," House of Nankirg has got color. It's also as crowded as a maoist rally, though on most nights with fanatics of a non-communist flavor. For House of Nankirg serves up the optimum cuisine, spicy and quick, that's bound to win many followers.
