I watched the show from beginning to end and Angelique was the biggest reason. The plot lines were advanced for the 60's and 70's on daytime television. Dan Curtis tapped into the youth market by getting kids to watch a soap opera. It was a little campy, but I didn't notice. Barnabas always had trouble remembering his lines, props didn't always work but you could always count on Angelique to light up the screen and draw you in. At least she did for a then 12 year old boy!!

Her intensity and beauty captured my eyes, her imaginative and drawn out spells captured my interest, but her cruel wickedness terrified me. Her seductive beauty and delicious evilness caused her to stick in my brain. I even named my daughter after her, thank God she didn't take after her

Boy does this bring back memories. I had such a crush on her. She was beatiful, mysterious and somewhat frightening to me. I would watch Dark Shadows just hoping she would be in the episode. She was the sexiest and most convincing witch I can recall. I still have a crush on her. And the name Angelique, ooh la la

Now THIS was a witch! As a child, I was forbidden to watch this show by my parents, because it gave me nightmares (I remember walking to school with an older kid and asking him anxiously, "Vampires only suck the blood out of old people, right?" He replied, "Nah, they prefer the blood of young punks, kids just like you.") However, I was able to catch an episode or 2 on the sly, and all I can remember of it now is that Barnabas scared me silly and Angelique made my heart soar. Re-watching the episodes now, as an adult, I can readily see why Angelique affected me as she did (although I'm not quite sure why I found Barnabas scary). Ms. Parker is absolutely gorgeous on the show and she's one of the few actors from this series who can actually act. Able to overcome the almost-always absurd dialogue and hackneyed, boring plots, she was able to create a seductive, vengeful and occasionally terrifying witch with great aplomb and style. I've seen pictures of her recently...she's still gorgeous...and has even taken to writing "Dark Shadows" novels that are far superior to the original TV-series. Viva Angelique and Viva Lara!

As villains go, she was undeniably one of the best. Her never-ending, unrequited love for Barnabas Collins drove her to insane jealousy. She is the one responsible for turning him into the reluctant vampire that would make Dark Shadows a hit in the 60's/70's and the cult favorite it still is today. Lara Parker created one of the most stand-out characters on the show and people who cant recall much about Dark Shadows will almost always remember Angelique.
