 | GenghisTheHun (173) 10/02/2006 | Today is October 2. On this day in history, in 1552, Russian Czar, Ivan the Terrible captured Kazan on the Volga ending the depredations of the Tatar adherents of the "Religion of Peace" as our beloved President calls Moslems, who had been raiding and slaughtering the Russian lands for centuries.
This great victory cemented Russian rule on the Volga and was largely responsible for Russia becoming a great power as opposed to a smaller European state.
