Another place in SF where the food is good, but it is overrated. The reservation wait time is not equal to how good the food is. Although, the ribs are amazing!

This thing has been posted as the Rant/Rave of the Day for so long, I swear I'm going to buy a plane ticket and fly out to San Fransico (lol).

This was the first time I had been to the Ferry Building location and it was horrible - When they were on Mission and Brannan, not only was the food superb, but the service was impeccable. This time, timing was off on everything - vegetable arrived right after we ordered entrees, 15 min before the rest of the food; dessert (which we were told was warm chocolate cake) was delivered before we got coffee, silverware, etc, and literally straight from the fridge. In terms of food, we ordered a few items we had had in the past (clay pot chicken was rubbery) and tried a few recommendations (shanking beef was not very flavorful). All in all, a VERY disappointing experience.

The restaurant has moved a couple of times, but is now on the Embarcadero in the Ferry Building. I went there a month or so ago with a group of four and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. It was a Sunday night so it wasn't too loud, but I hear that it can get pretty loud on the weekends. You definitely need to make reservations well in advance, but it is well worth the planning.

Over lunch on a weekday, there was no wait. The food was very good and the service was very friendly. It was a little expensive for lunch, but it was so good that it didn't matter.

Excellent food with efficient friendly service. I've eaten there at least 15 times and the food is always the same. Good Imperial rolls, great Shaking Beef and Carmalized Shrimp.

Slanted Door is San Francisco gentrification at its worst. Make people pay $40 for a meal and they believe it's good. As far as I'm concerned, the pork chops were dry, the imperial rolls bland, and worst of all, the staff was snobby. Slanted Door is neither authentic, nor good. And it's way overpriced. Ho Chi Minh must be spinning in his grave.

I had to make dinner reservations about two weeks in advance to get a table at this popular Vietnamese restaurant in the Mission, but it was well worth it. The food, atmosphere, and service are all excellent. Many people told me Slanted Door has the best Asian food in the city, so my expectations were very high, and I wasn't disappointed. I had the Chilean sea bass, which was so light it almost disintegrated when my chopsticks brushed against it - I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for seafood. And for appetizers we had the imperial rolls, which were great. The place is almost upsettingly trendy (I'd say 60% of the people there were wearing black and 80% were sporting mobile phones), but it didn't feel snobby at all. The wait staff was very helpful and professional, but they were also low-key, so I didn't feel like they were in my face too much. And if you need more incentive to give it a try, the place is not that expensive. I think dinner for two, including drinks, was about $50-60. Just don't go to Slanted Door if you're looking for a quiet conversation - it's loud in there, so you need to talk loud just to be heard across the table.

By most accounts, the best restaurant in the Mission. Reasonably priced, delicious food, with backlogs of up to a month to get a reservation on a week-end night.
