He was a great country singer. I listen to his song whenever I can. I do not really have many memories of him since my family was not playing country songs or that I heard but I know it was a sad time when he died.

Absolutely stunning contributor to the American songbook in any genre.  Its amazing to think that he did it all in such a short life time and battled such demons of addiction during the whole time.  He is to Country Music what Elvis is to Rock and Roll.

Very tragic that he died so young. Whether you like his type of music or not you must give him credit for his talent. His music was the new sound for his time. Many traditional country music fans did not take to his music. I know just about every word of every song he wrote. He probably could have used a visit to rehab...but that was before his time. If you don't like his music read the lyrics to his songs. 'Why can't I free your doubtful mind...and melt your cold cold heart.'
