Came to the US in the early 1800. Settled around Syracuse New York, and later moved to Fayette County Tennessee. Took the offer of land grants given by the government to settle the "wilderness." Part of our farm has been in the family since then.

Half Walloon (Belgian French) and half Flemish on my father's side. The family came to New England as sailors and fishermen in the late 1700s. The name has changed slightly as they dropped the "van de" from the front of the name and simplified the spelling for American ears.

My mother is a descendant of the French that invaded Mexico in the mid eighteen hundreds, they left their mark on the people as well as the culture, including the food. Part of my fathers side of the family migrated to Spain from France (pre-Columbian), then made their way to Mexico (New Spain) and and settled in what would eventually become New Mexico.
