Penelope is the woman that Desmond was in love with. Penelope's father wanted Desmond out of his daughter's life. At the end of last season's series finale, Penelope gets a phone call in the middle of the night from two Russians who make reference to something on their radar that showed up after the button did not get pushed on the island.
