It's a good, simple, old timey, heartfelt folk-like ballad about loss- Lee laments the loss of a dog, then a lover, and then his old group before noting that he has a new group. The problem is, aside from the actual singing parts, the tune is marred by lengthy jamming around that, including a dull drum solo. There's an edited version which cuts out the excess that's available on some compilations. This song appeared on their 5th album, "Out Here." Arthur Lee recorded many tunes with the new Love in ' 68 and '69, enough for 3 records, but he owed Elektra one more album. Elektra got to choose the songs they wanted for "Four Sail." Having signed to the ridiculously named new label Blue Thumb Records, the rest of that material was put out as a double album called "Out Here" a few months later. There were some good songs on that, but a lot of filler, and this was one of two 10 minute or more songs that just seemed to be there to take up space. While the stuff from the later records wasn't nearly as good as the first 3 albums, it's been unfairly maligned overall in my opinion by critics and music historians. 2.5 stars.
