Flags of Our Fathers was a great movie. Its motivation was to portray war in actual terms of what happened, instead of glorifying war and its "heroes." The characters in the movie weren't extraordinary men, but regular people who went through a horrific ordeal. Their story was captured, revealing their flaws, while also showing them as individuals who struggled to do the best they could in life. The attempts by the army administration to market them as "heroes" to the public, and use them as fundraisers without regard to their personal experiences of war show how individual soldiers are pawns to a higher purpose. I liked the line toward the end of the movie that these men might have described as fighting for their country, but they truly fought for their friends. I can see where some people might complain that Flags of Our Fathers was made to be a political film against war(IRAQ). I can see where the political bias may have come in, but I have no problem with a portrayal of war without the gratuitous glorification. For every Rambo, there should definitely be a Flags of Our Fathers.
