The names I would consider cute, others might consider sappy.

We used to have a very loving little pet dog named GERMS. But I think that's a cool name, not a sappy one.

oh yeah. I call my two dogs by nicknames. cannot resist. and they do not seem to mind as much as my kids would if I called them some sappy nickname. give them a dog treat, pet them and pay attention to them and they do not seem to mind if I call them a sappy nickname.

When we were all pretty young someone gave my youngest brother a cat as a gift. The rest of us (four older brothers) didn't care for cats very much and we also happened to own a very large dog named Steve. We were taking bets on when the dog would turn on the cat so we started calling the thing "Breakfast".. and the name stuck. As it turns out the dog and the cat just ignored each other for the rest of their lives.
