Yes, I have done this, and a couple of times I have almost gotten myself in trouble.

Wouldn't suggest it, you might piss off some wiseguy.

No, I do not do this and do not appreciate it much either!

No,but I have honked the horn and flashed my lights a time or two.

I've managed to do some pretty regrettable things, but this one just makes me cringe for some reason. Never have, and don't plan to; I prefer to just look someone condescendingly in the eyeand smile!

Actually, I like the Italian method of the "bird." You clench your fist, raise your right arm above your head, and slap your right bicep with your left hand, and pump your right arm. Of course that means that you have to take both hands off the wheel, but what the hell.

All too regularly, I'm afraid. But I plead the defense of having to put up with some of the worst drivers in North America. Of course, some of them are probably saying the same about me.

Today in fact. The guy pulled out in front of me and expected he'd have enough room to get in. It would've been his fault if there had been an accident.

Yes, I have, and it became one of life's little lessons for me. When I was in my early twenties, I was driving east (in the Los Angeles area) on the 10 freeway, merging onto the 605 northbound. If you've ever been on this transition road, you know that it can be a little tricky during rush hours, and sometimes becomes one of those every man for himself situations. Anyway this car cut me off and forced me into the next lane, barely escaping what could have been a bad accident. Well I stepped on the gas and caught up to the guy. As soon as I was side by side with the driver, and before I got a clear picture of who was driving, I stuck out my middle finger. Instantly I regretted it. It was an old man and his wife, they looked to be in their eighties, or there abouts. He was waving an apology to me, and he had a sincere smile on his face. I saw his mouth turn downward, and a look of hurt on his wife's face and immediately felt like a king sized jerk, which I was. Life lesson learned? Don't be so quick to react or judge, and remember, we all make mistakes, big and small.

Maybe when I was younger and didn't fear life as much. But I don't even use my horn anymore due to fear of being shot. Most people know when they make a mistake driving so why rub it in. There are just alot of bad drivers out there so all the more reason to drive defensively. Flip someone off and they may remember your car in the future and follow you home one day or attack you at some gas station so why jeapordize your friends and family. Not worth it at all.

Last I heard, Florida now has a law that justifies shooting someone based on your PERCEIVED sense of fear. So, I don't feel like being shot at for road rage, 'cause someone felt "threatened" enough to claim self-defense over it.

My driver's ed teacher always said I should use hand signals when I drive. So, whenever I am nearly being mowed over by a reckless idiot, I flip them one.

No one gets out of Jersey without resorting to this at least once...

Just as it took a number of years to add certain curse words to my repertoire (which I regret since I'm trying to eliminate them now), I didn't start out doing this when I first learned to drive. It took awhile to build up enough driving angst to get to the point of presenting the bird award to the many morons you inevitably will encounter on the road. The sad fact is that there are so many monkey brains who are allowed to operate cars that, if you really thought about it for too long, you wouldn't have the nerve to drive at all. Unfortunately, flipping them off does not appear to be the answer to getting them off the road. Even so and as crude as it is, it can sometimes give you a tiny, fleeting bit of relief. (Can you imagine how blue the air would be if cars came equipped with loud speakers? Little kids would have to wear earplugs.)

Yeah, but seriously, what kind of moron tries to pick chicks up in traffic? Guy drove up alongside me, and made hand gestures that roughly equate to something along the lines of "what is your phone number?/I want to call you". In response, I shown him my engagement/wedding ring. He shrugged and showed his. Ugh. Of course I'm going to flip him off. I would like to think people aren't normally that stupid to do stuff like that, but it happened TWICE. I don't think I flipped the first guy off, but definately the second one.
trebon1038 10/26/2006
I dont really flip anyone off, but I do gesture like "what the hell was that" or "this light won't be green forever"...I think you get the message. (wink wink)
Molfan 10/26/2006
well yes but under the steering wheel so they do not see me. there are a lot of people who irk the hell out of me. but the last thing I want is a confrontation with someone. so my "flip off" is out of radar. Of course I will be in big trouble some day if somebody can read lips.
