Definitely a sign that fall is in the air. That's one of the things about fall I like, but I do prefer spring.

Always loved this smell. Unfortunately, they made the burning of leaves illegal in NJ sometime during my childhood, so I have to journey to another state sometimes for my olfactory "fix". It's funny how evocative smells can be. I was never a big marijuana smoker during my teens, but I always liked the smell. It's been years now since I've been exposed to that smell, but I can detect it in a NY second if someone is smoking it in the vicinity, and suddenly I'm transported back to the concert halls of my teenage years, drinking with my buddies, inhaling the luscious scent of Alzheimer's-defeating grass, and the years fall away like a flimsy curtain. I guess it's sort of incongruous to compare the scents of pot and burning leaves, but it is what it is, at least for me. I smell burning leaves in the crisp autumn air and suddenly I'm 8 years old again, helping my Dad rake, maybe looking forward to trick-or-treatin' with my pals. Great smells can summon forth great memories from the cellar of our subconscious like nothing else.

NO!!! I always disliked the smell. I can define the smell, but it's horrible.

burning leave smell is okay if you are in a place where it is legal to burn them. we live in the city so we have to rake the damn things and bag them for the city. had to do that today. do not mind the raking but gathering and buying bags not as great.
