I don't hunt. . .would like to try it one day- but I rank it as an annual ritual for our species. . .trying to get a good feast and harvest before winter comes. . .it's a part of that natural clock and order of nature that does exist. It's comforting to some. . .

Comedian Ron White said something to the effect of hunting being too early in the morning, too cold, and he just didn't want to go. I'm with him on this one.

SIGH, ANOTHER UPDATE: I forgot to add that I have blasted a lot of wild turkeys! They are really good eating, and Wild Turkey is also good swilling! O.k.! Many a mangy dingo has met its fate as my gimlet-eyed sight squints throught the scope and squeezes the trigger!ANOTHER UPDATE: Within five minutes I had my first two unhelpfuls. Hilarious! I forgot to add ruffed grouse and prairie dogs, as varmits, mind you! UPDATE: Shucks, I forgot about doves! ORIGINAL COMMENT: Ah, hunting. I love it. I have shot white tail deer, mule deer, elk, moose, bear, antelope, pheasant, sharp tail grouse, prairie chicken, quail, partridge, duck, goose, snipe, rabbit, raccoon, swan, and probably a lot that I can't remember. I never shot mountain sheep or mountain goats or lions, but I plan to do so.

More of a winter thing than a fall thing for me, as deer season where I live is in the winter. (Well techincally late fall, but I consider mid-December to be winter, and not autumn as it technically is.) I'm just not as into the fall game such as squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, etc., although I do hunt these from time to time. Would get five stars under a list of things to love about winter.

For me hunting is cruel and before you say "Why the hell do you eat beef than?" I could never kill a living thing(I am excluding bugs and rodents here), at least I'd like to think that I can't.

I don't go any more, but, the season itself brings back many memories and I'd sure rather have fresh venison on my table rather than all the chemical laden meats you can find in the super market these days.
