Funkytown (Lipps, Inc.) 5

I used to think this was a late 70's joint...combining disco and pop. :)

Funkytown (Lipps, Inc.) 4

"Funkytown" was one of the last, great songs of the disco era. If memory serves, the genesis of the song was the wish of the songwriter, DJ Steven Greenberg, to get out of Minneapolis and back to New York City (aka Funkytown). Instantly recognizable to most generations, "Funkytown" has been covered several times, including a version by Pseudo Echo (which charted in 1987). The original by Lipps, Inc. was a huge hit in 1980, charting in the U.S. for 15 weeks (peaking at #1 for 4 of those weeks); nevertheless, the single suffers slightly as a Big 80's song, as it falls within a then waning genre.
