Jose Valentin is an interesting player to discuss when considering the question what really comprises value? In some ways, Valentin, an infielder who's played short and was The Mets second baseman this year, and has played for the White Sox and other clubs is a very flawed player, an awful fielder, though he's improved somewhat, since his days in Milwaukee. He also whiffs a lot, has only hit .243 lifetime, and doesn't have great on base percentage for his career. However, he has managed to have a pretty long career and has hit over 240 homers, which is very good for his position. He's not a good player, but not a complete zero either.
