The film wanted to be "Sideways" and "Under the Tuscan Sun" all rolled into one. Unfortunately Russell Crowe is no Paul Giamatti and Ridley Scott has no talent for light comedy what so ever. And no where on the screen was there anything that looked as remotely good as Diane Lane.
