A great story song written with a very cinematic narrative and attention to detail. Opening with "It was rainin' hard in 'Frisco, I needed one more fare to make my night", the song covers the chance meeting of former lovers, one a star and the other a cabbie. It goes through their romatic history and then brings them all the way up to date with her sitting in the back of his cab on her gated driveway with the fine trimmed lawn. It wraps up with the beautiful dramatic (some may say hack and corny, but c'mon it's a pop song) momment when she offers her down-on-his-luck former lover an overly generous tip and he contemplates how to react. After running through anger, hurt and gallantry, he just stashes the bill in his shirt and heads off to get stoned. It ain't much for setting things straight, face-saving bravado or macho coolness, but its closer to the truth of what would happen in that situation than probably any other pop song ever written.

a nice song that has a story to it. the lyrics are great. describing a chance meeting between two people who knew eac other from years ago. both had dreams then and are seeing how their lives turned out. I think I appreciate this song more now than I am older I guess i understand it better. abour how turns out different from what you might have hoped.

A classic. This is one of those songs that tells a story, and I love the last line:"Now some men might have been angry, and another man might have been hurt, but I took that 20 dollar bill and I stuffed it in my shirt".
