 | GenghisTheHun (177) 11/27/2006 | The novel, "Mandingo" by Kyle Onstott came out in 1957 about slavery in the South in the decades leading up to the Civil War.
There was a whole series of novels to follow. They were trashy, salacious, sensational and wholly not socially redeeming. I read them all!
This flick takes one of the novels and trys to tell a story. Oates plays Hammond Maxwell, son of the planter, in the first novels, and I can't think of a more fitting person to play that role.
If you have read any of the novels, you know what I mean.
"Drum" is a sequel to the movie, "Mandingo." The critics hated both movies, but I gotta think that PC thinking entered into a lot of it. They aren't THAT bad.
