 | DrEntropy (38) 06/01/2008 | Could be, but it's not likely to look like WWIII. The global economy is too interdependent to see any major wars, and a pacified urban population is not going to stand for conscription short of a national invasion. The major wars of recent times have been either one-sided beat-downs (Most US wars since Vietnam), or imperial adventures ending in tears for both sides (USSR vs. Afghnistan, US vs. Iraq), or pointless, squalid guerilla wars that go on for decades without producing a clear winner (Columbia, Congo). Not pretty, but not the end of the world either.
