 | ChristByNameOnly (0) 11/20/2004 | This is the time honered trick of blaming the nation's problems on some kind of scapegoat. Hitler blamed the poor economy in '30s Germany on the Jews.

 | bibliophile (12) 11/03/2004 | This is definitely one of the smartest campaign strategies in the Bush arsenal. They know gay marriage is so polarizing an issue that its inclusion as a ballot referendum will bring conservative faithful to the polls faster than fried chicken at a church picnic.

 | abichara (63) 10/31/2004 | This is a very deviously smart way to get the cultural conservatives out to the polls. Karl Rove has been on the record as saying that he wants to increase Christian right turnout for the Republican ticket up 4 million people from 2000's turnout. It's a good way of generating enthusiasm up for the Republican ticket. Note in GOP rallies that invoking the defense for the institution of marriage is what gets them going. Don't underestimate the power of such issues. So far, it's worked in making Missouri difficult for the Democrats. We'll see if any other states turn on this issue which is really of no consequence to the vast majority of Americans.

 | LanceRoxas (41) 10/20/2004 | There is a referendum on the Ohio ballot that will bring the defenders of traditional families out in droves. This issue (along with school choice) is also going to push more blacks into the republican ranks. Look for Bush to greatly improve upon his 9% in 2000 with blacks.

 | magellan (174) 08/26/2004 | This is a brilliant. Get conservative Christians out to vote by giving them the chance to define marriage as between a man and a woman in their state, and while they're at it, vote for the God-fearing presidential candidate. This could be the difference in a swing state or two.
