 | Randyman (103) 04/22/2007 | Rubin (Hurricane) Carter was somewhat of a Cause Celebre for many years with the Hollywood crowd,as well as with former Heavyweight Champion Muhummed Ali, all of whom fought to have his conviction in a 1966 triple murder in Patterson, New Jersey overturned.
I have no idea if he's guilty or not, but my understanding is that many of the facts in the movie about his life, The Hurricane (1999) were misrepresented, including his his title fight with middleweight champion Joey Giardello, which most experts remember as Giardello clearly deserving of his victory, and which the movie portrays as a overwhelming racially slanted loss for Carter. In Carter's case, there was just as much conspiracy to prove (lie about?) his innocence than there was to convict him. In the grand scheme of conspiracies this was just a blip on the radar, though Carter probably feels otherwise.

 | Drummond (54) 12/15/2006 | His conviction was overturned, however, there are still questions about his guilt.
Wikipedia has a pretty good account.

Boby Dylan of course wrote a song proclaiming his innocence. The movie strongly leaned towards this conclusion as well.
And the evidence seems rather questionable on its face.
