At under six feet tall and about a buck sixty, he is the most intimidating, menacing player in a game of giants. Hes blown off more practices than probably anyone in the history of professional sports, but when the whistle sounds for the game, nobody has ever played harder.
And hes still in his prime. Last year and the beginning of this year have been the best statistically of his career. For years people have been talking about the imminent deterioration of his athleticism. But he hasnt lost a damn thing. He still has the athleticism and recklessness, but hes learned a lot about the game.
Yet somehow, this dominating little man was never able to improve the players around him. Im happy that hes going to a system that will embrace his frenetic style, and a coach who knows how to deal with a mega star.
I also think the Sixers did very well in what they got back. They now have three first round picks in next years draft, which is being touted as the deepest in years. They also have a sturdy, unselfish, legitimate point guard in Andre Miller. And they picked up a juicy, $8M expiring contract.
Its a changing of the guard in Philadelphia, and a change in the balance of power in NBAs western conference. If anyone has a chance to watch AIs first game as a nugget, I wouldnt miss it. He is going to bring the house down.
