3.5 Varitek is probably the second best catcher in the history of this team, meaning as far as his contribution to the team goes- i.e. perhaps not the second best catcher who EVER played for them. Has power, gets clutch hits, and calls a great game. He's started his decline, but has had a fine career with them. One of the better catchers in the league during his prime.

Arguably the best active catcher in baseball, in my opinion he is second only to Fisk as all-time Sox catcher. Pretty good company. Strong defensively, dependable hitter, and a team leader in the same manner Fisk was. Lot of upside with this guy.
