AWESOME . . . never will be a better catcher.
He was behind the plate what Ripken is at short!
He did his job everyday the best he could, isn't that what America is all about?

Fisk had a high-maintenence attitude as a player (he had 'problems' with more than one team) but great catchers in baseball are rare- and it would be tough, abeit impossible, to find a better Sox catcher. . .still, as an "All-time" Sox, I have to 4-star him. . .

While I'm not quite as big a fan of Fisk as Oscar is, there's no doubt he's the best catcher in Sox history. Good hitter, tough as nails and an excellent defensive catcher, he is best remembered for waving his home run fair in the 12th inning of Game 6 of the '75 series. My one quibble with him was his ability to drag games out interminably. He virtually wore a path to the mound going out to consult with pitchers, and Genghis' comments about his fiddling behind the plate are entirely accurate.

I watched "the Human Rain Delay" play for the White Sox. He could waste more time fidgeting around behind the plate than a woman getting ready for a date.

Fisk, who played until he was 45, actually played more games as a White Sox, but almost nobody would think of him as such, for his peak was spent in Boston, and while Fisk was still one of the best catchers in the A.L. for Chicago, most of his best years, like '72 and '77, were in Boston. A good defensive catcher, had some power, and though not exactly a fast guy, was agile and mobile for a catcher, and made the Hall of Fame. Hustled and played the game the right way, and I think it's safe to say that no other all- time Red Sox player is as far ahead of the next guy on the list for their position as Fisk. There simply isn't another catcher who's anywhere close to him on the Red Sox list. 4.5 stars.
