A slam dunk as the best center-fielder in Sox history, and one of the best hitters of his (or anyone's) time. A key figure in Boston's dynasty of the 1910's, he revolutionized his position.

The first truly, truly great everyday Red Sox player, a knee jerk HOF'er. Though Speaker played more years with Cleveland ( he's almost certainly the best Cleveland position player ever, his only possible rival would be Lajoie) and a few at the end with other clubs, yet quite a few of his very best years took place in Boston , where he played from 1907-15, and while Fred Lynn, Dom DiMaggio, and others were fine centerfielders, he'd probably get my vote as best ever for that position. A great hitter for average and power, baserunner, and he revolutionized the center field position by playing very shallow. To some degree overshadowed a little bit by guys like Cobb, but one of the greatest all-around players of the deadball era. Underrated.
