Pesky was an all-star caliber shortstop in the 40's and early 50's who briefly played with Detroit and Washington after the Red Sox. A slap hitter who had over 200 hits the first 3 seasons of his career, which was interrupted by three seasons of military service in WW2. Good walk totals, and hit .307 for his 10 year career. The foul pole in right field is named Pesky's Pole, though he only hit 17 homers in his career. Pesky also served the Red Sox as a manager, coach, scout, etc. and though he's pushing 90 still serves as a sort of elder statesman, if you will, for the team.
