Outstanding player- both offensively (obviously) and on defense- those gold gloves. Best Sox 3 bagger ever- in the Hall and certainly deserves it.

What a damn fine hitter and third-base man. You'd think his bat was three-feet wide because he struck out so seldom. What made it all the more remarkable was the fact that he never swung at the first pitch and more often than not, the pitchers would always be ahead of him in the count at virtually every at-bat. I recall vividly his numerous ping-pong shots off The Green Monster at Fenway. Boggs owned that wall...

The chicken eating, groupie banging, hitting machine is the best thing the Sox ever had at the hot corner, with the possible exception of Jimmy Collins. Quite possibly their best table setter too.

Wade Boggs is the greatest third baseman in the history of the franchise- a 5 time batting champion and HOF'er who walked a lot and hit plenty of doubles. He began as a fairly nondescript to bad fielder, but improved to the point where he became a very good third baseman. He later played for the Yankees, where he had some good years, and Tampa Bay, but the bulk of his career was spent in Boston. As a hitter, he was somewhat comparable to Rod Carew and Tony Gwynn- guys who wound up with over 3,000 hits and didn't have a real lot of power, though he lacked the speed of those guys. He played in Boston from '82 to '92.
