Roger Clemens is one of the greatest pitchers of all-time, if not the greatest. If you look purely at stats he is not the greatest in numbers(but pretty close in many categories), but I do not believe if you put the all-tme greats in Clemens' era they would not be anywhere near his numbers. Back to the issue of him being a Red Sox great. Roger Clemens will always be remembered as a Red Sox because he played 14 seasons with the Sox. He is tied with Cy Young for wins by a Sox pitcher, he won three "Cy Young's" with the Sox and was the All-Star and League MVP in '86 with the Sox as well. He also had two 20 stike-out games with the Red Sox and is with-out question the best pitcher to play for the Red Sox.

I'm fully aware that 2 of his very best years were actually the two in Toronto in the late 90's, and that he went on to success with New York and Houston too. One of the best pitchers of not only the modern era, but all time, and tied with Young for the all-time franchise record. About the only demerit I could claim for his career with the Red Sox was that Dave Stewart of Oakland owned him for some reason or other in their matchups. A great, great pitcher- a bit surly in his younger years at times.

He is a 5 for those fans who don't remember anything since 1996. Plying his trade for a couple of other AL East teams, and winning a World Series with Boston's most natural rival certainly have brought him down a notch.

Great pitcher for the Sox, who gave up on him too soon and let him go to free agency in one of the stupider managerial moves from a team that's made more than it's share. At his peak, and with a full head of steam, he looked all but unhittable. Struggled a bit in post season, but still full value.
