Kerry correctly reconsidered running for President in 2008. Even though he never stopped running after 2004, he decided to pass on the race next year primarily because his candidacy wasn't getting favorable attention. In politics, everything is about image: in the case of Kerry, he was seen as gaffe-prone, and has a tendency to ramble. Plus many party activists believed that he ran neither a very savvy campaign nor an aggressive one. He was a bad campaigner, probably the worst they've had since Walter Mondale in 1984. And even with that, John Kerry, a Massachusetts liberal with the charisma of a turnip, nearly beat out Bush in 2004. Had the Democrats nominated a stronger candidate, they could have beaten Bush.

Given that the field of candidates this year is much stronger at the Presidential level, Kerry would have likely had to take a back seat to newer voices. He does have a lot of money still in the bank from his Presidential campaign, but he might actually need it to run for re-election in Massachusetts.

A recent Survey USA poll shows Kerry with very anemic numbers going into 2007 back at home in Massachusetts. In fact, he only has a 40% approval rating in state. Apparently his constituents think he hasn't been taking care of business in Washington, focusing more on national concerns. Kerry has never had strong local political base to call on like his fellow Senator from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy. In fact, he was almost beat 10 years ago for re-election; Teddy on the other hand has never faced a close re-election race since he was elected in 1962. 2008 may prove a tough year for him. But the Republicans will have to nominate someone who can appeal to moderate voters, who consist of 47% of the state electorate. They aren't necessarily as liberal as you'd think. The problem for the party would be to find someone to run who can win. Perhaps former moderate Republican Gov's. Bill Weld or Paul Cellucci may be decide to go up against Kerry. He can be defeated, but theyre going to need a strong candidate to do it. This is a race the GOP should target.

Fading into irrelevance regardless of what he says or does. . .his loss in the last election (fairly lost or otherwise) contributes to his unfavorable treatment by the media. . .this was a war-hero who was treated like sh#t while the male-cheerleader was portrayed as 'tough' on 'terror'. . .hilarious. . .but Kerry's shortcomings as a campaigner and being the world's worst joke-teller seal his fate. . .

I am sure that the GOP is praying that he is the 2008 Democratic candidate.
