For me, this is an admirable trait. If you want slavish devotion, cat's are probably not for you, although some of them can be very affectionate and friendly.

I agree, this is one of the best things about cats, is that they can easily fend for themselves.

One of the few things that I have to agree on is that cats are on their own while dogs are always in need of affection, which is ok, but I don't always have time.
