 | FranksWildYears (48) 07/17/2008 | This one is a tough call for me. I was a huge fan and he was hands down the top player of his era (admirttedly there wasn't a lot of steller competition during his era). But I'm not sure that he's Hall of Fame stuff. He was a master craftsman, integrity till the end, played with great heart and a brilliant synthsist of styles, but not really a pioneer, or innovator per se. And because he was such a singular talent, I don't know that he'd rate as influential. Very tough call but I'd have to say worthy on a year with a weak ballot at best.

 | Astromike (18) 07/17/2008 | YES! He had style, a good mix of blues/rock & roll, a good voice, and was a damn good guitarist! Get him in!

12/15/07 Update
I contacted the President of the Hall, they indicated that SRV was not eligable to be on the ballet until next year;25 years from first album release of something like that. So maybe better fate for SRV than for DEEP PURPLE, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Moodys, Yes, Chicago, and others deserving induction before jazz artists such as Miles Davis, and country legands, or minor 50's artists such as Richie Valens, adn bon jovi. No offense to any of them, but this is a ROCK AND ROCK HoF, isn't it?

 | chrismin2003 (0) 03/13/2008 | The Hall better be careful with their inductees or they are going to have to legally change their name to the Pop Music-MTV Hall of Fame. Are you freaking kidding me? ! ? Madonna before SRV? She wasn't even a thought when he was already putting great music out ! ! !

 | JandC (0) 03/08/2008 | I think that Stevie Ray Vaughn is one of the first American Blues Guitarists in the 1980's.

 | Drummond (54) 10/26/2007 | He was brilliant. Sort of like Hendrix, along the lines of Hendrix's Band of the Gypsies album. Great fusion. So sad it was cut so short.

 | bassman44113 (16) 04/21/2007 | Stevie's influence among todays guitar players alone is reason for him to be in the Rock Hall of Fame. It would truly be a Hall of Shame without him.

 | letreado (0) 04/16/2007 | Listen to Stang's Swang, and you can't help hear the tribute to the tradition while creating something rich and new. The accomplished guitar playing is one thing, but the influence with which he drew listeners into his performances extended far beyond skills, or you wouldn't hear the legends themselves praise SRV. He was a great, and to find his likes again would be a great gift to music today. Meanwhile, let's celebrate his contributions.

 | Caspery (0) 04/07/2007 | Rock Hall Analysis - Pros: Brought blues back to the mainstream, highly skilled guitarist. Cons: Didn't do anything that thousands of blues artists hadn't previously done.

 | littlsister (0) 03/12/2007 | SRV was the best blues guitar player that ever walked the face of the earth--if not the best guitar player. He was responsible for the second wave rock-blues revival, which occurred in the '80s.

 | doobiesNhof (21) 02/23/2007 | SRV could flat out play the blues with the best of them including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, BB King, Albert King, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Muddy Waters...on and on. The tragedy of his death in 1990 ended a life and career that was still maturing and getting better day by day. RRHOF needs to get off their a**and induct him as soon as he is eligible and while they're at it also The Doobie Brothers.

 | cevaking (1) 02/08/2007 | The intro says it all - Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush, and Muddy Waters and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre.
Now add that he was such a great and humble person, and that there's a statue of him standing proudly in austin, texas and you've got everything you need in a hall of famer - pure legend.
