There is tough competition for the worst fielding first baseman in baseball history, but this guys a strong contender for the title. Seemed to think every ball popped up in the infield was his, and would literally bodycheck his team mates out of the way to get to one (which he would invariably drop) If the ball was hit high enough you half expected the rest of the infield to hold a meeting to decide which of them caught the ball, while the rest of them tackled Willie. Appeared to think digging the ball out of the dirt was an option, fielded bunts with his feet, and if he had to throw..... Well, God help the fans behind whichever fielder he was throwing to. Like a lot of these guys, he could hit pretty well.

Slow and lumbering, with the stick he was kinda like a poor man's Cecil Fielder, George Scott, or John Mayberry. In other words, he was a pretty decent hitter. With a glove, atrocious...it was like he was a toy from the 70's: Weeble Wobbles, armless little figures that used to sway back and forth... Weebles wobble but they don't fall down...
