Having seen him play at both the minor and major league level, I am prepared to state that Ron Kittle is the worst fielder I have ever seen with my own eyes. For one example, in all my years of watching the game and coaching it at the junior level, every time I have seen an outfielder settle under a ball and tap his glove, he makes the catch. Kittle would settle under a ball, tap his glove and the ball would drop 20 feet behind him. He couldn't field a rolling ball without going to both knees, he never seemed to know how many were out, he threw to third base no matter where the runners were or what the cut-off man did. He could hit for some fair power, but had no judgement of the strike zone, and appeared to be a hell of a nice guy. As a fielder, however, he wasn't an adventure, he was a thrill ride. And one without safety straps at that.

Kittle had one strength- one- he could hit homers. Kinda like a more boring Rob Deer as a player- except that Deer was actually a pretty good glove and would draw some walks. In the outfield, Kittle was simply terrible. There was a reason he only played for about 6 or 7 years, and this is it.
