Doesn't get talked about much, but had some good offensive seasons in the 70's, and was really the first everyday player to be a star for the Texas Rangers. One of the more obscure MVPS of the second half of the 20th century- he was the AL MVP in '74, and had good years in '73, and with the Braves in '77 and '78. A power hitter in his best years, though his averages fluctuated greatly. By the time I saw him he was a semiregular who was often the DH or a pinch hitter with the A's and Blue Jays, but even back in his prime he was apparently a brutal fielder in the field.
