Health insurance has always been a bitch for me. For the past few years, I've been a substitute teacher, so I've bought my own. I wasn't too fond of the plan, but it was cut at the end of last year due to the Affordable Care Act. The space in my wallet that once held my health insurance card is now replaced w/a Dunkin' Donuts' VIP card for the month of February. In all honesty, I'll probably hop on the 'exchange' at some point soon. I'm not too happy about the Affordable Care Act due to the fact that it's killing full-time jobs and the fact that monthly premiums went up in over 40 states but oh well. Anyway, I had hopes for Obama. If any president was going to be different, it was going to be him.....instead he turned into Bush, Jr. and more of a status quo president. Whatever. Anyway, if you want a medium coffee for 99 cents, look me up!!

How to cleanse the individual health insurance pool:

.. Put policies into a phony group to make them think they are getting a discount.
.. Once a year, double the group premium due to high losses.
.. At the same time, start a new group with the old premium and transferable benefits.
.. Invite policyholders who filed zero claims to join the new group. Do not invite sickies.
.. Every few months, raise premiums of the sickie group until they all drop out.

Well, BCBS just increased my and my husband's monthly insurance cost AGAIN. We were at $700 a month - which is unaffordable already - and they have increased us another $150 per month. The thing is, we've never used our insurance (which is fortunate for us) yet we are paying these high rates - we carry a high deductible already to try to keep the rates low and now they've increased us yet again. How are we to afford this? I feel like the harder you work the more penalized you are, higher taxes, higher insurance cost etc. On the flip side of this story I have a sorry brother who has barely worked his whole life and he and his wife (she has never worked) have the "entitlement attitude". Everyone owes them but no one has ever done anything for them - and no, they don't pay high insurance costs, they get free medical, no they don't have to worry at the price of groceries, they have a food stamp card...and on and on and on. I feel like Henny Penny, gather the ingredients to bake the bread, ask everyone if they want to help bake, they don't but when the bread is done they all want to eat.
