He's funny on the Daily Show, but not consistently so. I heard him on This American Life talking about his rise to fame -- he got the Apple and Daily Show gigs at about he same time -- and he was very funny.

He plays that "smug guy who doesn't realize how dim he's coming off" brilliantly. Because of his strength as a performer, the PC guy never enters my consciousness when I see him on the Daily Show. On the other hand when I saw the Mac guy in the Die Hard movie, I couldn't get past the character from the commercials.

He's not bad, but I think he's better on the Mac ads.

I am in complete agreement with the other reviewer. Hogdman's droll, nerdy brand of humor is like nothing else I can think of. And, as mccartney said, he's also a first-rate writer: his The Areas of My Expertise beats Mo Rocca's All the President's Pets and Lewis Black's Nothing's Sacred by a country mile. Endlessly inventive, Hodgman is the best parody of erudition since Bouvard and Pecuchet. (Take that allusion as self-parody, too.)

His best bit was still his very first TDS interview when he was pushing his book, "Areas of my Expertise..."... I still think about it how funny it was to this day... FYI: the book was top notch.
