Not so much doing what he would do, but sometimes his words come out of my mouth when I'm talking to my kids.

Unless I find myself sleeping with 19 year old girls, living in my mom's basement (between trips to jail) and getting into street fights for fun.. I highly doubt I am doing what my dad would do. Also I would have to lose all my teeth. I am nine years past when all his fell out of his head, and there is no rotten teeth present.. but I am hoping.

Actually, I've been saying things like that since I was a lot younger too. My mother and I were always a lot alike.

What's REALLY scary is suddenly realizing one day that you've skipped your parents and moved on to your grandparents. Surreal!

My Dad and myself are a lot a like and a lot different at the same time. He is a good man who raised me after my mother died. In some areas I find myself being more like him while other areas I resist.

This is so true. When my kids were growing up, I found myself echoing my fathers words to me. As I was speaking I could almost feel my fathers presence in me. It was eerie. As I have aged I find myself becoming more and more like my father. It's not a bad thing, it's a good thing. Although physically I tend to favor my mother, there are times when I can see my father staring back at me from the mirror.

Actually, this is the realization that I always aspired to achieve. (Still aspiring, BTW)

I love my dad and all, but drinking, smoking ( . . . or standing up to pee, for that matter) is not for me.

Well, I almost never preface a thought of mine with "Oh my gosh", but the sentiment is still applicable. When I was a kid, and listened to the Rolling Stones or T-Rex or Alice Cooper or the NY Dolls, my Dad would often stop in his tracks, shake his head in disgust, and exclaim, "How can you listen to that crap? It's nothing but noise!" I, on the other hand, would watch as he listened to Frank Sinatra, whom he always described as the "pr*ck with the golden voice", and say, "How can he listen to that? That guy's got the worst voice I ever heard, and I don't care if he does come from Hoboken. Hell, I could sing better than that!" How the years change us! I now agree with my father's assessment that Sinatra was "the pr*ck with the golden voice" (I paid $100 to see him sing in San Diego a few years before he died and I actually felt sorry for the guy, despite my dislike for him personally...the stories of his senility weren't a joke...he was obviously barely able to even remember the lyrics for "My Way", his signature song). Dad still dislikes the Stones and the Dolls, but since I haven't lived in his house for decades, he no longer has to listen to them. As for me, I hear the music being put out today, and say to myself, "How can people listen to this crap? It's nothing but noise...talentless noise at that. Oh my gosh, I'm doing just what my Dad would do!" In truth, what I'm actually saying to myself is, "My God, things have gotten so incredibly banal and crappy in just a few short decades. Doesn't talent count for anything anymore?"

Dad would have to grow up before this could be applied...

Nope- I actually hold a job.

And isn't that really the way it ought to be?
