Excellent guns! i have had a marlin 336 30-30 lever action for 9 years and took my first 18 deer with it. It has recently been replaced by my new 2009 marlin xl-7 270, these rifles are IT! this is one of the best rifles i have owned and much less shot! i just tokk a deer at 213 yards about a week and a half ago this rifles are sleek durable and flat out get the job done.

Best deer rifle, ever! Hits hard and drops deer in their tracks. I've taken a deer at 110 yds, although, I wouldn't recommend much over 75 yds. If you hunt in the brush, this is the rifle to use!

Boy oh boy! The Marlin 336 is just a great all around American rifle. I own it in several calibers, and it is hardy and reliable.

I've a 336W. I've owned and hunted a 30-06 and a .270, and a a couple diff muzzleloaders. Owned & shot several milsurp rifles. The Marlin is my current deer rifle, and I'm unlikely to sell it. I wish I'd gotten this rifle 30 years ago; it is just delightful. Trim, handy, good trigger, very accurate - it is as good a whiletail rifle as I can imagine. It doesn't have near the recoil of a 30-06, nowhere near the noise & muzzleblast of 30-06 or .270. The cartridge is plenty sufficient for where I hunt, in the woods. I've practiced at 100yds, never shot at a deer past about 90. Deer hit in the vitals drop as fast with this as with the 270. Excellent rifle, I recommend it.

Sold a Marlin (model 336 I think) back around 1984 or 1985 due to a problem with it jamming frequently. It was a 30-30 caliber, and although it was probably not a major issue to fix, in the end it wasn't gun enough to keep.
