Yikes! Where to start. Unfortunatley, the fact that this topic was suggested by someone who believes that REAL singers and movie stars are his friends on Myspace should say something. At 34 years old, you need to know that "Official sites" does NOT mean that you are actually speaking to CELEBRITIES! Sorry ~ in a foul mood today! I suppose if anyone wanted to discriminate against me for my musical tastes ~ I would be banned by everyone!! I listen to ALL music, so yes, I guess that would mean I am "part redneck" because I like country, "part black" cuz I like soul and "part 50s" cuz I like oldies ~ man, I could go on and on. Good Gravy, who will want me now? I am going to be an outcast in society.

Limp Bizkit sued me for a caustic RIA review, claiming emotional distress and the wounding of their 'inner children.'

Music discrimination to a certain extent is valid it just sounds ridiculous because its not as extreme as the other groups on this list. As ridiculous as Music Discrimination does sound, Mikeholly might actually have a point here. EVERYBODY has their underlying prejudices and why should music be any different? There are certain music genres I, you, we all don't particularly like or the culture behind it. I mean you only have to look at certain music genre lists on this site and see what people think of christian music, rap, rock, pop, jazz, gospel, r & b, soul, heavy metal, indie etc and read their distaste for it and sometimes even the people that are apart of it or listen to it. It may not be as serious as the other discriminated groups on this list but once again it does leave the question open as to why we don't like these types of music and the question goes a lot more deeper than we think. Think HARD about that one (sarcasm).

Perhaps if you squint one eye, look through a magnifying glass, through smoke and through several screens, and if your eyes are watering and if you tilt your head to the left and look all the way to the right, then maybe, just maybe, music discrimination may seem valid. After all, there are artists who are immediately despised or praised by the music they are associated with. But its not as though we go around with name tags that declare our tastes in music, so I wouldnt go so far as to say that people actually wont be friends with someone based on these grounds. Perhaps if you are in the field of psychology or neurology and understand the importance that certain tastes in music reveal about someone (this isnt limited to genre. Some people may like a song based on the lyrics, instruments and other criteria that doesnt pertain exclusively to genres.), the music one listens to is significant (but if youre trying to analyze someone psychologically, youd be more interested in the persons reaction to the music as opposed to preferences). It seems impossible to eliminate discrimination. Religious discrimination and racism were major problems in the world, and still are concerning issues, however now theres homosexual discrimination and other forms that werent as prevalent as before. Perhaps this is the next big thing? Are we analyzing what could be the next biggest trend in this world? Do we, knowing what we know and the potential that music discrimination holds, have what it takes to stop people from being abused physically and mentally because of their choices in music? Can we save the world in this small yet significant way? (sarcasm once again)

I've only seen this in one instance (er, from one individual) in my life--there are plenty of people who don't like each other's choice of music, but usually it's just a passing thing and it's not mentioned again. I hear a lot of people say I don't like rap or I hate country music, but I don't hear a lot of I hate PEOPLE who listen to pop music.

I don't care for some types of music, but there is no reason to discriminate against someone for having their own individual tastes in music...unless they want to ban all other types of music to suit their own artistic or personal tastes.

Huh? I find some music annoying, but I can't say I find reason to discriminate over it.

Damn Mike, those rednecks are persecuting you? You poor thing. How about this one: Some morons who listen to teen pop and black music like to acuse people who listen to country music of persecution. Get real.

I don't discriminate against people FOR the music they listen to. I just have discriminating tastes in music. :)

This is rare but it happens. For example, some rednecks who listen to country music lke to harass and persecute people who listen to teen pop and black music. Fortunately, that did not happen to me.
