 | Donovan (130) 02/08/2007 | Occurred on Jan. 9, 1857 with a magnitude of 7.9; although called the Fort Tejon earthquake, Fort Tejon, was not the epicenter, nor was it even near the epicenter of the earthquake; even so it suffered considerable damage from the main shock and it was battered by aftershocks for months and years to come. These are both a direct consequence of the Fort's proximity to the fault.
