Wasn't a bad speech, although Michael Moore upstaged him.

McCain's speech and political clout definitely helped turn some moderate voters over to Bush in the 2004 election. Overall, I'd have to say it was very refreshing to have him speak in the convention considering all of the Kerry-bashing that happened during the convention. Some have suggested that McCain may be warming up for a presidential campaign in 2008, but as he has already admitted, he's getting a little too old for that.

Except for the reference to Michael Moore, I thought his speech was flat, as if he didn't really believe what he was saying. My belief is that he may want to run for president in the future, so went through the motions.

I agree with sperryc, Mc cain's speech was very good!

I was impressed by this speech. McCain's sincerity always comes through when he speaks. He refrained from the heavy-handed Kerry-bashing some of the other speakers have indulged in, which was refreshing. I probably would have left the Michael Moore reference out, but I don't think it detracted from the overall speech. If there's one thing the Bush campaign will benefit from after this convention, it's McCain's appeal to the fence-sitters.

Phenomenal speech. Another TRUE WAR HERO for GWB. Probably the best written speech so far though his locution wasn't as electrifying as Miller, Guliani or AH-NULD. Gratuitous trashing of Moore was a nice touch but his detailing that Our choice wasn't between a benign status quo and the bloodshed of war. It was between war and a graver threat. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise was by far the most compelling point of his speech for me. He blasted Kerry rightfully for being all over the place on his stances on key important issues facing the nation- And Kerry wanted him for his running mate!! LOL McCain stated in unequivocable terms that security of freedom is the first and foremost responsibility of our commander in chief. Amen!

I used to think this guy was a joke, but he shocked me, as did Zell Miller. He really gave it to Moore, who showed his true colors by running away and not wanting to be inside MSG after what McCain said (looks like he can dish it but he can't take it). He also was very genuine and I actually kind of like him now!

I used to like him, and I even voted for him in 2000. I see Karl Rove got to him and made him drink the Kool-Aid.

Question: would McCain, Pataki, etc be speaking if Bush were ahead 15 points? I don't think so. Just a sham to fool the voters that republicans are compassionate. Ha. I still respect McCain, though.

Excellent speech, delivered with skill and dignity. His slapping around Michael Moore was very funny. What was Michael Moore doing at that convention? Nobody advised him about the dress code, huh?

A man of great integrity whom I still feel would make a great president.
