 | James76255 (17) 02/10/2008 | I would have much preferred Romney as president, but it wasn't to be. Since he has only suspended his campaign, I assume his name will still be on the ballot when I get to vote March 4, so I will still vote for him regardless. I don't know if he will find a place in the administration should McCain win, but I wouldn't mind seeing him as VP or Secretary of Education. It's not likely to happen since he and McCain apparently don't like each other much, but it's not totally out of the question either.

 | harrisoncollin (0) 02/03/2008 | Mitt Romney is the most dishonest candidate running. He is often flip flopping on issues just to attract supporters. Romney is often saying on how he will better the economy, but what about all the other issues that effect the American people. The United States is not a business.
Americans vote wisely is our representative who were voting for! I am a republican but will vote democrat for the first time, if Romney its the (R) nominee! Vote for John McCain 08 the only candidate with experience in all the issues that are of great concern to the American people!

 | SuKingsANDKnights300 (14) 01/20/2008 | First shame on those who last time used to discriminate him on his church believes. He is a mormon, I know, but can religion prevent a man from running a country?..Huh?. This is one of the issues I suppoesd to touch long time, ago, but I was nervous it would make mindcrackers spring up with criticisms, and more headaches of debate. The fact is, the more you become jealous of God's, and of what they want to have, the more you get a lot of disagreement, and resistence from God himself. The more people envy God's people, the more they fail, to stand up against them. The votes depends according to voters, and what good judgement relies upon what the people see with people who can lead well, not religion anymore. I'm proud, and happy to see with great faith to become presidents, may be, they would make a difference. May God be with Romney to acheive his victory.

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 01/20/2008 | It increasingly appears that Romney is going to win the GOP nomination in 2008. I write this on the day after the South Carolina primary that McCain won. McCain has no financing, and he looks extremely "long in the tooth." Ronald Reagan was McCain's age during Reagan's successful 1980 campaign, but Reagan looked and acted twenty years younger than a seventy year old. McCain LOOKS old and he acts old. Huckabee is attractive, but his Fundie religion is not going to cut it on the national stage. Fred Thompson never came out of his catatonic state. Rudy Giuliani has so much baggage that he ought to work for United Airlines as a handler. Romney remains and abides. He has the money to hold out until the others have fallen away.

 | sperryc (29) 10/10/2007 | Very polished and, for better or worse, very politician-like during yesterday's debate. As were many of the other candidates, Romney seemed almost fierce in his determination to cut spending if elected. Yet, he didn't mention how he'd go about doing it, and he described plans for a variety of new spending policies. I did think the Boston - New York comparisons he made in terms of state and city tax rates were pretty compelling though.

 | USADude (3) 09/11/2007 | Romney's record:
1. Cut taxes
2. Cut spending
3. Enforced immigration laws
4. Provided health care to citizens
Mitt Romney is the right leader with proven results and solutions to defend America and keep the economy strong.

 | abichara (60) 05/29/2007 | Of all the GOP candidates, Romney is running the most professional campaign. And innovative too. People who raise money for the candidate get a 10% commission of the total funds raised. That has been a good incentive program for his people, as the Romney campaign is keeping up in the money race, at the very least. I actually think Romney has a decent record both in the public and private sectors, and he wouldn't be all that bad of a national candidate.
Romney's campaign though is tightly scripted and cautious. Generally this is regarded as the best way to win Presidential campaigns, but in a volatile political environment, it may make the campaign less willing to make certain necessary adjustments midway. Romney is gaining establishment support, but he'll need to make a better connection with primary voters by shoring up his conservative bonafides. So far, that effort has been mixed, but in order to win in November 2008, he'll need to make a move back to the center. My immediate observation is that Romney has been gaining some momentum, while Giuliani and McCain have sort of stalled out. McCain can regain some momentum back, but I think Giuliani has peaked. Conservative voters are thinking twice about his liberal social views, among other concerns. This leaves Romney in a good position to seize the race. Let's see if he does it.

 | Victor83 (35) 03/06/2007 | Verdict is still out on this one. Some things about Romney impress me, but I fear he is just another "moderate" Republican. If I am wrong, good. If I am correct, I think we've had enough.

 | oscargamblesfro (76) 03/01/2007 | No chance. Republican or not, a Mormon and a former governor of Massachusetts will simply not go over well in mid- America. I basically agree with everything Jed said so eloquently below. I think this carpetbagger is a revenge of sorts for various Kennedy carpetbaggers. Romney has always struck me as a phony, with hardline positions on benefits for the elderly and a sneering, condescending disregard- make that contempt- for the average American that unfortunately has been all too prevalent in politics ( regardless of affiliation) of late. Romney has had a somewhat interesting back story, but I just don't see this guy making that much of a national dent...

 | Jed1000 (72) 03/01/2007 | Finally.. something I can get my teeth into.
His Presidential campaign literature bills him as "The Republican governor who turned around a Democratic state." (I can hear everyone from Massachusetts laughing as they read that.)
The Boston Herald (our local conservative paper of record) points out that during Mitt's tenure the commonwealth lost 10,000 jobs.
No, he didn't propose any new taxes.. but he raised $500 million in fees and another $210 million by closing a number of tax "loopholes."
The legislature passed a number of bills over his veto. So much for his powers of persuasion.
And his efforts to recruit more Republicans to the House and Senate resulted in a net loss for the GOP in both houses.
After 16 years of Republican governors in the "Corner Office" the job finally went to a Democrat. Good job, Mitt.
Oh, and let's not forget how easily this zebra changes his stripes. Pro reproductive rights when he ran for governor.. now opposed. Pro gay rights when he ran for governor.. now opposed. And the list goes on.
A non-starter.. if you know what's good for you. And I mean that for anyone of either political persuasion.
