The Chargers are in the AFC Championship game... That speaks for it self. He was very successful as a Offensive Coordinator while in Dallas. Never got an opportunity in Oakland to showcase what he can do. Got the opportunity with San Diego and look where they are now. One game away from Super Bowl 42.

"The Norv Turner Effect" - insert this person and mediocrity ensues. . .do you have people like this in your office?

Oh dear. Norv was at the Redskins (my team) for years and it was a period of pure mediocraty. There is no doubt he is a fantastic play caller, but there is also no doubt he doesn't have the leadership/organizational skills to be a head coach.

*Updated Review:* What a catastrophe... the Chargers are 1-3 after finishing 14-2 and firing their coach. Unreal - if I were a Chargers fan, I would be so pissed off right now*Original Review: I'm surprised that this guy got another job. So you're the Chargers. You just finish the best year in team history. So what do you do? Fire your coach and hire a retread who has failed at every place he's ever been.

I thought the San Diego Chargers were actually serious about winning. Maybe there's hope, but I just don't know with this latest move. Norv Turner seems to be at his best as an assistant coach rather than as head coach.

I'm with Magellan here. Why would the Chargers fire a guy like Marty Shottenheimer, a guy who just led them to a 14-2 record last year, who is one of the most winningest coaches in NFL history (despite his weak playoffs record), and who has a good history of working with his players? My thinking is that a power play occurred and Schottenheimer ended up on the losing end. Certainly the Chargers are not better off for it. Norv Turner is a good offensive mind, and he will have plenty to work with in San Diego, but his teams have always been lacking. In Washington, the guy had a $100 million roster, yet he led his team to a losing record before getting fired. In Oakland, the same occurred. Now in San Diego, he finds a team that has lost both its offensive and defensive coordinators along with lower staff positions. Certainly, this team will not be going 14-2 next year, as the new coaches get used to their players. At this point, the last thing San Diego should have done was get rid of Schottenheimer. Turner is going to have to hit the ground running if he expects to remain in San Diegos good graces. Especially considering his weak coaching record (59-82-1) with well staffed teams, that might not happen. A good organization has been torn to pieces, and the result is a much weaker team.
