I pretty much Support most Vices you can throw at me, as Long as nobody gets hurt, But I do not wish to see this Drug Legalized. Regulated, maybe, since Criminalization has been ineffective, but it Should not be made Legal.

I think it already is legal (morphine, oxycontin and a myriad of other opiates are available by prescription).I sometimes wonder if the DEA is actually rather pleased that prescription drug addiction is on the rise in America in relation to addiction to controlled substances. With the prescription drugs supply chain there's a tax involved at the beginning at least.

It will never do anybody any good, therefore it should never be legalized.

This one should be illegal. You become addicted, you become a danger to society.

It is increasingly clear that the "WAR ON DRUGS" is utterly ineffective.I've seen first hand the cost of heroin addiction and the price that users pay, and criminalization has done nothing to slow or stop it. This is not to suggest that legalization is the answer, but criminalization and nothing else, has not proved to be.You do not deal with issues of addiction by criminalizing them. Most addicts die from the lifestyle, and commit crimes from the need to support the lifestyle. Legalize and regulate it, as some countries have done, has minimized much of that.

Legalize it and tax it. The use the money to combat the use. Once the criminal hand is out of the picture the problem becomes manageable.

Marijuana might be debateable, but I would never agree to allowing other drugs to be legal.
XAgent 05/17/2007
That would be a negative.

No way, a much too dangerous drug!

This is one I'm really ambivalent about. Heroin is one deadly, highly addictive drug, and it's hard to be glib on the topic of legalization. I've known people who have died from it or had their lives blighted by it. The idea of children getting it is scary indeed. Still, the idea of sending people to prison because they're users is idiotic. Our prisons are filled with drug addicts, and all this seems to accomplish is to support the prison industry, and criminalize a certain segment of the population. Heroin addiction, addiction of any kind, is a disease, a sickness. There's a part of me that believes if we really are as free a society as we claim to be, then people should be able to make decisions about their own lives, even if those decisions ultimately prove destructive to themselves. I also know that after decades and billions of dollars spent on our so-called War on Drugs I can go out into any urban area (and probably a great many rural areas, if I know where to look) and buy any drug I might desire within minutes. I haven't been to NYC in awhile, but just a few years ago, in certain sections of the East Village, I had pushers running up to me, trying to sell me a variety of narcotics. I have to assume the situation hasn't changed much in subsequent years. I also think that one of the lessons we should have learned as a country from Prohibition is that if people want something bad enough, they're going to be able to get it, no matter what the authorities in power say.

As technology advances along with better medicine, heroin might be used as a cure someday. So why not legalize it and find the goodness and usefulness in heroin?

high....dead......high........dead, is it worth it?

Really dumb idea.

I don't think heroin should be legal-but I do think addicts should be put in clinics and treated medically instead of thrown in jail unless they committed some crime such as robbery to support their habit.I don't see incarcerating someone who has only harmed their self.I'd rather see the Police arresting violent offenders, such as robbers and rapists.

Smack is highly addictive and potentially deadly. Only a fool would want it legalized.
texasyankee 04/25/2005
Scary that this is on the list of possibilities. If you have any doubts, just watch the movie trainspotters, then you will never again question if this shouldn't be legalized.
traderboy 03/14/2005
Yep, if you're willing to consider legalizing coke and pot, you've gotta go with heroin, speed, and crystal meth. More care should be taken in these areas (as these substances are more addictive and unpredictable), with better treatment facilities and the like. The dough generated through this could end up paying for a national healthcare system that could in turn solve many addiction problems on the fly. If alcohol can be a billion-dollar baby, so can anything else.

Are you mad? This is one of Earth's deadliest substances? Heroin should be destroyed altogether!
