No government at any level should have the right to cut off the sale of a legal product to any legal adult. If it is immoral to drink on Sunday, it is immoral to drink Monay thru Saturday. Blue Laws are both hypocritical and insulting.Further, why is it "moral" (legal) to go to a bar, get shit-faced, and drive; yet immoral to buy beer, wine, whatever, and take it home?Pure stupidity.

Legalize it, dammit. I live in a Dry state and I do not care to be told That I can not buy alcohol if I happen to be out. And yes, I realize I can Stock up, but thats not the point. I am a Grown man, I can drink Monday through Saturday and I do not need to be told that it is Immoral for me to Drink on Sunday. It is really annoying to be at a Grocery store at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, have the Clock change to 12:00 while I am in Line at the Check -out and be Turned away because now it is Technically Sunday. In this Recession, one would think they would want you to buy all that you can. It makes no sense to be withholding sales of a Product because it Might offend One person in 25.
Boobytube 10/29/2008
Stupid.......just what we need to keep priming the alcoholics 24x7 huh? Its not like they cannot stock up on the stuff the other six days of the week. Lame.......
Moosekarloff 10/14/2008
It's generally in those backward toiletbowl states where this is an issue. There, peoples' religion has the unamerican effect of influencing public policy. There should be no restrictions on the sale of alcohol whatsoever. You should be able to buy it at any time of day or night. And it should be available to everyone, not just those over 21. Isn't it interesting that in Europe, where there generally is no drinking age, the incidence of alcoholism is lower than that of the U.S.?

Blue laws violate the Establishment Clause, but many of them are still on the books.
irishgit 10/13/2008
Personally, I've had it with places that stop selling liquor every time I'm thirsty.
numbah16tdhaha 10/13/2008
Not before 10 am in Arizona. UPDATE: This doesn't change when they can drink it! UPDATE: Yeah, this one just grinds me since I've been turned away at 9:55 am and told I need to wait five minutes. Really, kids, can we get this outdated crap off of the books? Morality can't be legislated anyways. It comes from the indiviual or it doesn't come at all.
Chalky 09/23/2008
I live in a state where you can buy alcohol on Sunday. Big Deal. Legalize it as Peter Tosh would say. I don't get this one. If anything, outlaw alcohol being sold on airplanes
Doctor of Madness 09/23/2008
If something is legal, the marketplace, and not the government, should decide the terms and times of its sale.
Yogurt 06/07/2007
This law is ridiculous. We should have the right to buy beer any day of the week.
Vudija 05/17/2007
I, personally, don't care. I don't see the point, and I really think it's a rather outdated idea though. Those who drink and see nothing wrong with drinking on Sunday should have that right, just as people who choose not to, can.
XAgent 05/17/2007
Luckily I still have some from Saturday.
twansalem 05/17/2007
I've gotten so used to being able to buy liquor any day of the week and in grocery stores that it can be a real pain when I go somewhere that doesn't sell liquor (and often beer as well) on Sundays or holidays, and or only sells liquor in state owned liquor stores. I was in Connecticut one summer over the 4th of July, and we were just going to hang out and grill and drink beer in the small back yard of our apartment. But when we got to the grocery store this stupid little curtain was pulled down over the beer! We had a few spare cans of beer left in the fridge, just enough so we could each have one, but it definitely wasn't the celebration we'd planned.
trebon1038 11/30/2005
Almost anywhere I have lived sells liquor on Sundays in restauraunts and in some states, bars. Might as well sell it in the grocery and convenience stores. If the privately owned liquor stores want to be open on Sunday, then so be it.
panacea 08/27/2005
Well, Washington State is finally joining the ranks of the enlightened and will allow around 35 liquor stores to be open from noon to 5 on Sunday. I'm just very pleased because it's the first Sunday after my 21st birthday so I feel like it's a gift from the state :) They're claiming it's to raise revenue off taxes but I really think they're just slightly embarassed they're still letting the bible bangers control liquor consumption.
Redoedo 06/13/2005
I don't see why not. An archaic law that is being changed in most places.
kattwoman 06/02/2005
you can buy beer here in salt lake city but not any other kind of alcohol. there are a few places here you still cant buy any on sunday. i think they police it toomuch here. the state owns the liquor stores and so the state controls it
Wid71 05/19/2005
I never did understand the point of not selling it on Sunday.
CastleBee 05/19/2005
This law has always seemed weird to me. It changes nothing, because people who want their beer, wine or whatever will only stock up for the weekend. If you don't drink, you won't be buying it anyway. The really odd part is that it is still served in restaurants and wineries are allowed to sell wine on Sunday as well. Yet, we still have this little return to prohibition every Sunday. It's as though Carrie Nation and her cronies are still throwing their weight around from beyond the grave.
TJGypsy2 04/27/2005
I've never seen the point of making it illegal to buy it on Sunday. If liquor store owners want to sell it on Sunday, more power to them.
souljunkie 04/26/2005
Here in the Lone Star State we can purchase it after 12:00 on Sunday. Kinda silly really. I dont know what they are trying to control. It just goes back to trying to make the Religious far right happy I think and it does not work so Let the Booze flow! (the far right even scares some of us Republicans!)Another thing that we cannot enforce at all and its a waste of time and commerce.
Djahuti 04/26/2005
I think this should be left up to the state or county.Liquor is aready sold on Sunday where I live-but if it wasn't you could always stock up on Friday or Saturday.Bars are always open, ready to over-charge you for you booze,anyway-so it's not like the store closing is making it unavailable, anyhow. It's just making it more expensive.Whatta Country!!!
Flick01 04/25/2005
I'd like to see it left to the local communities or county jurisdictions. This way if a small town wishes to outlaw Sunday sales it won't affect other communities who wish to sell.
Jar-Jar Binks 04/25/2005
Yes it must remain legalized. It's not really a big deal. Sunday is just another day.
doobiesNhof 04/25/2005
Sell it on Sunday because people will drink it anyway. They'll buy it on Saturday!!!
dpostoskie 04/25/2005
It's hard to believe that a mainstream, not to mentione HUGE moneymaking product, still has these type restrictions. Hell, they drive-thru places in some states.
texasyankee 04/25/2005
Ya, believe it or not you can't buy booze before noon on Sunday in New York and all day here in Texas. Well, hard stuff anyway. You can buy beer and wine on Sundays. But we're lucky we got booze at all, there are actually some dry counties out here. My town has a petition going around now to get permission to have liquor/beer stores. First time I came here, and tried to get beer I drove forever before I got any! I actually thought it was a good thing, doesn't seem to have the issue much of drunk drivers around. Not like it was in New York anyway.
Enkidu 03/20/2005
Are there still places where you can't buy booze on Sunday? WHY, for heaven's sake?
emj5687 03/20/2005
yes, i cant really think of a valid argument against it.
traderboy 03/14/2005
As a non-imbiber, this issue doesn't personally affect me. Others, however, should be miffed that these outdated edicts remain on the books due to the hypocritical influence the church still wields. If I had a nickel for every upright citizen who guzzled down a 12-pack after a hard day at church, I'd be stinkin' wealthy. I say, let it flow.
Skizero 02/16/2005
this is already true in a lot of places. for places where this isn't true. government needs to get with the times and move away from overbearing laws based on religious mores of over half a century ago. there's no crime in being able to buy a beer or wine on sunday. even Jesus pulled back a glass of vino or two.
