I really, REALLY hope he's burning in hell. He killed and raped innocent children for his own pleasure.

A French aristocrat and soldier who fought valiantly alongside Joan of Arc. However, in his leisure, he raped and murdered scores of children, with the emphasis on young boys. A theatrical profligate, De Rais professed to be a Christian but also hoped by means of alchemy to contact the Devil and secure certain advantages for himself. For many years, De Rais enjoyed immunity from his crimes as his victims were invariably the children of peasants. However, when he offended the Bishop of Nantes, an investigation was begun, and De Rais and his assistants were sentenced to death. After securing forgiveness from the Church, De Rais was hanged, as were those who aided him in his crimes. A fascinating if sickening personality (given that he was "forgiven" by the Church, I guess it's probable that the "Saved" will be meeting him in Heaven someday?), and unlike other historical "monsters" like Elizabeth Bathory, Lucretia Borgia, and even Vlad the Impaler, it appears as if most of the horrifying, nauseating accursations made against him were accurate. I recommend "The Trial of Gilles De Rais" by George Bataille and "Gilles De Rais: The Authentic Bluebeard" by Jean Benedetti.
